Thiru Uraga Perumal temple situated at the base of Kundrathur Shri Murugan Temple. Very old temple. Perumal with THIRUVIRUNTHA VALLI THAYAR. Here Thiru Uraga Perumal in standing form and blessing the devotees. Thayar in separate shrine east side Prharam. History of the temple : Once King Kulothunga had some Ill. He could not get cured though he visited many temple. Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream as an aged man and asked him to visit Kancheepuram where He was as Thiru Ooraga Perumal Then king came to this place but found Perumal on the divine serpent Adisesha in His reclining form. He had a doubt whether he came to the right place. He stayed for a night there. Lord again appeared in his dream and said that He was in the place as Ooraga Perumal on Adisesha the king was happy, worshipped Perumal and got relieved of the spell. As a mark of his gratitude to Lord, he built the temple here. During the construction, Perumal granted darshan to the king as Tirupati Venkatachalapat

KUNDRATHUR SRI MURUGAN TEMPLE, Kundrathur Lovely and calm temple of Shri Murugan situated on a small hill with around 100 steps and with motorable road. Kundrathur Murugan Temple is located in Kundrathur, a suburb of Chennai.  According to Hindu mythology, Lord Subramaniar stayed on the hill during his travels from Tiruporur to Tiruttanigai. This temple is also known as South Thanigai from the fact that the statue of Lord Murugan is erected facing the northward direction. Further, the temple’s significance lies in its being “the only Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu where the God is standing in a north facing direction”. This temple was constructed by King Kulothunga Chola II . In  this temple Sri Lord SUBRAMANYAR can be seen only with one Goddess at a time even though he is standing there along with both the Goddesses VALLI & DEIVANAI. If the God is viewed from one side he can be seen along with Goddess Valli and viewed from the other side, he can be seen along with Goddess Deiva
