KUNDRATHUR SRI MURUGAN TEMPLE

KUNDRATHUR SRI MURUGAN TEMPLE, Kundrathur

Lovely and calm temple of Shri Murugan situated on a small hill with around 100 steps and with motorable road.
Kundrathur Murugan Temple is located in Kundrathur, a suburb of Chennai.  According to Hindu mythology, Lord Subramaniar stayed on the hill during his travels from Tiruporur to Tiruttanigai.
This temple is also known as South Thanigai from the fact that the statue of Lord Murugan is erected facing the northward direction. Further, the temple’s significance lies in its being “the only Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu where the God is standing in a north facing direction”. This temple was constructed by King Kulothunga Chola II. In  this temple Sri Lord SUBRAMANYAR can be seen only with one Goddess at a time even though he is standing there along with both the Goddesses VALLI & DEIVANAI. If the God is viewed from one side he can be seen along with Goddess Valli and viewed from the other side, he can be seen along with Goddess Deivayanai.
Well maintained and clean temple.
Temple has ample car and 2 wheeler parking at base and atop hill.
