Sri Kailasanathar temple is a beautiful west-facing temple situated on the banks of the Pachai River which comes from the slopes of the Western Ghats and runs in front of the temple. The whole surroundings around temple is greenery. The temple is said to be over 1000 years old. The internal stone structures and wall carvings shows the age of the temple.  The history of the temple, the main deity was found in the bushes, when a cow was used milk in that particular area, and the local people found the  Siva Lingam in the bushes under a VILVAM tree. Then the local king constructed a temple and installed this Lingam as main deity as Sri Kailasanathar. This temple one of the famous SIVALAYAM around Tirunelveli and one of PANCHA LINGA STHALAM on PACCHAIYARU river.

Unique feature is both Kailasanathar and Avudayambal sannathis are parralel position and facing WEST from EAST. The main entry into the temple is from Pachaiyaru river banks through a mandapam in the west. The outer Prakaram covering both Sivan & Ambal sannathi  is filled with beautiful flowering plants and trees. The entrances to the sanctum and Goddess shrine are from this Prakaram through separate mandapams in front. The sanctum of both Siva and ambal are separate and have pillared mandapams before the deities. The sanctum of the main deity has an inner Prakaram around for where you can see Sri Sani Bagwan in separate Peetam, Kanni Moola Vinayagar, Sri Murugar with Valli & Deivanai, Sri Bairavar,  Sri Guru Dakshinamurthy facing South with Rishis ( Unique Position), and Beautiful Three DEVIS opposite of Guru sannathi. Sri Nandhi is facing Sivan sannathi in the inner praharam.

Another unique feature in this temple is we can see PANCHA LINGAM with Ambals and each with Nandhi in separate sannathi.

In the Outer Praharam we can see – Dharma Sastha with Purna and Pushkala in separate sannathi, and through small entrance inside we can see small sannathi for Vinayagr.

Whole temple in old period architecture, and sannathi placements are different from other Sivan temples. Many years back the temple was in poor condition. Thanks to native pepole, devotees and Mr. S V S Mani Iyer (Chennai) took lot of tireless efforts to bring back the temple to present condition and daily poojas.

Pradosham is very important in this temple with many people coming to this temple. Daily poojas are done. Very clean and calm temple. We can feel more vibrations inside the temple.
