Sri Thanumalayan / Suchindram Sri Anjaneyar Temple

Sri Thanumalayan Temple is located in Suchindram 10 Kms from Nagercoil on the way to Kanyakumari. Here in this  temple  Thirumoorthis  - Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma are in same sanctum. And this temple is also famous for  Suchindram Lord Anjaneyar Temple.

            Also known as Sthanumalayan Temple, Sri Sthanumalayan represents Sthanu means Lord Shiva, Mal means Lord Vishnu and Aya means Lord Brahma. Here the lingam represent Thirumoorthis in  three parts. The top represents Shiva, the middle represents Vishnu and the bottom represents the Brahma.  This is a ancient Temple is said to be built in between 15th to 17th Century. We can see wonderful architecture and sculpture carvings in all parts of the temple proves the age of the temple.

            This temple has a majestic white Gopuram with seven tiers with its entrance adorned with finely sculpted images of various deities. Out side the temple we can see a huge beautiful temple tank, water from here is used for temple poojas.

            The presiding deity, Sthanu (Lord Shiva), Mal (Lord Vishnu) and Aya (Lord Brahma) are inside the sanctum of the temple. By the side of sanctum sanctorum, there is a separate shrine for Lord Vishnu. On to the right side, there is shrine of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, while on the left side is the shrine of Lord Vinayagar. On the front, there is Navagraham. There are many small shrines in this temple including of those of Kailasanathar, Chitra Sabai ( Natarajar Art),  Guru Dakshinamurthy, Sri Lakshmi Ganapathy,  Lord Subramania Swamy, Indra Ganapathy, Kala Bhairavar and many more. Sri Garuda in front of Vishnu Sannathi. Very big Nandhi opposite of  Moolavar in outside Praharam and Kodimaram and Sakshi Vinayagar.  Next to Nandhi another Moolavar sannithanam with SWAMY comprising Thirumoorthis. Opposite to Anjaneyar sannathi we can see Ambal Aram Valartha Nayaki  Sannathi.

            One of the legends of Suchindram is related to chastity of Anasuya, wife of Sage Atri. The legend says that the trimoortis appeared in front of Anasuya as begging brahmins. When she was about to serve they imposed a condition that they would eat only if she served them naked. Through the power of her chastity she converted the three Gods into babies and suckled them. On the plea of Ambal Aram Valartha Nayaki , Anasuya restored the deities.

            Another important feature of this temple is massive idol of Lord Hanuman at a height of 20 feet is really beautiful. The Hanuman Idol has been carved out of single granite rock. Most days of the year Sri Hanuman is fully covered with Butter and Thulasi garland. Every day lot of devotees throng Sri Hanuman Sannathi offer Butter. The temple is always crowded from devotees all over India.

            Visiting this temple early morning 6 to 8 AM  we can have good darshan.

Temple Timings : 4:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM
