This temple dedicated to Lord Siva and called as Thiruthaleeshwarar as he was found under one of the types of palm tree which is called Thali  ( Mangala Sutra) whose leaves were used those days married women used to wear around neck. And these leaves also used to write and hence he is called Thiruthaleeshwarar. The legend of this temple  is  that Lord Murugan worshiped him here before going to Sura Samharam and after Sura Samharam He returned back here.  We can see the Lord Murugan with South facing peacock (which is called Asura Mayil) with Valli & Deivanai and without Vel in his hand in his sannathi.  

           

            A 1200 year old temple which was built by Pallava Ruler Nandhivarman II and later renovated during the Chola period. We can see lot of  Inscriptions about Chola period are found in the temple. This is a south facing temple with 5 tiered newly built Rajagopuram.


            The temple is situated in a huge ground and with  holy temple tank. At the entrance of the temple, an old idol of  Lord Vinayagar with wearing Snake around his hip is found, which looks attractive.

           
            The moolavar Sri Thiruthaleeshwarar Sannidhi is facing east and is in the Gajabrushta architectural style. ln the inner praharam we can see the sculptures of Ganapati, Dakshinamurthy , Vishnu, Brahma, Valli Deivanai sametha Murugan, Utsavar and Durgai as found in most Shiva temples. The Dhakshinamurthy has a small idol inscribed in the hair knots. Ambal  Maragadambikai’s sannidhi is facing south and The temple has many pillars with beautiful sculptures. All the sculptures and Lord Vinayagar inside Praharam all leads to the temple has some connection with Combodian Culture. Some of the faces carved in the pillars, design are Combodian style.  In one pillar we can see standing lion sculpture of Combodian style. Sri Kali urchava vigraham is very beautiful and one can see the scenes of asura Bali shown under her feet. In the inner praharam we can see separate sannathi for Lord Maha Vishnu with Boodevi and Sridevi in sitting position. Here the Perumal called as Sri Bhoga Sundara Moorthy. Long years ago a Perumal temple was near this Sivan temple. That temple was destroyed long ago and only Sri Vishnu Idol can be recovered and installed in this temple.  In thr inner Praharam  roof is having Fish sculptures and also on one side a snake about to catch Moon ( Chandra Grahanam) and another side a Snake about to catch Sun ( Surya Grahanam)


            In the outer Praharam We can see a separate sannathi with Lord Lakshmi Varaha Perumal with Sri Lakshmi in Lap, Anjaneyar,  and Nagar, Sri Kala Bairavar, Vinyagar in one sannathi and Sri Sani Bagawan in one sannathi.


            Here Pradosha Nandhi is in Outer Praharam and Pradosham is important in this temple and attended by large devotees.



















Timings: The temple opens by 7:30 am to 11.30 am & 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm

Location : The temple is located in Aranvoyal on the Chennai - Thiruvallur High Road. Then take the road opposite the Kingfisher Distilleries. After travelling for around 1.5 km, the road splits itself into two. Take the street on the left hand side and after 150 metres, again take the road on the left hand side. The entrance of the temple can be seen.
